2023 Season Reflection

💭In my opinion, this has been the worst season of my professional career. I moved back to Atlanta this year to be closer to my husband and friends in hopes that I could still maintain form. Unfortunately, this season turned out to be the opposite of those plans. Within sport we talk a lot about everything athletes sacrifice for great results, but no one talks about potentially sacrificing results for life and happiness. I’m still trying to figure out that balance & although life outside of track has been great, my results on the track have dampened other parts of my life.

It is extremely difficult to work at something day after day and not see results from that labor, especially when you are aware of your capabilities.

What has kept me grounded during this season, as always, is these few gems from the best book ever written:

  • “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” James‬ ‭1‬:‭2-4‬ ‭

  • “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” James‬ ‭1‬:‭12‬

  • “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”- James‬ ‭1‬:‭17‬

  • “But we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance produces character; and character produces hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. Romans‬ ‭5‬:‭3‬-‭5‬

  • “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”- Philippians‬ ‭1‬:‭6‬

  • “[Blessed is the one] whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.”- Psalms‬ ‭1‬:‭2‬-‭3‬

Despite these results and my feelings towards them I can always find things to be grateful for:

  • U.S. Champion

  • World Championship finalist

  • Top 10 World Ranking 🌍

Grateful to be one of the best during my worst ❤️
